About this event
If you choose only one day to volunteer, choose this one. It’s the best combination of outdoors and indoors, quiet and busy, and you get to see the food from the moment you pick it off the plant to the smiles on faces when you give it away.
We begin the morning in THEARC Farm. It’s peaceful, the birds are chirping, and we set you to activities like plucking ripe cherry tomatoes off vines or clipping fragrant herbs and bunching them. Very satisfying.
Then you move with the produce indoors and help us set it out on tables, arrange it, bag it, label it and get the space in order.
And finally, it’s go time. You spend a fast-paced hour giving out those nutritious gems to a line of women, men, old, young–each smiling and giving you a quick moment of delight or fascination or even disgust. You’re refilling baskets and opening produce bags. And then it’s done! Without fail, everyone finishes their first experience surprised and transported. And exhausted. It’s fun!
You’ll be hungry when you’re done–bring a lunch. And wear comfortable shoes!
The show must go on, rain or shine. But we spend less time outdoors if it’s raining.
