About this event
(14th St.) Core Flow Alternating w/ Mobility @ 1910 14th St NW 3rd Flr Class description: Mobility Wednesday will be taught on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. If there is a 5th Wednesday it's teacher's choice or majority rules. This class focuses on mobility. During Mobility Wednesday classes we will move within the Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) system to build a more intentional connection to the deeper movements of the body. Expect a system of slow and meticulous movements designed to promote joint health and longevity. This movement practice will challenge you to move with a deeper sense of focus and intention. This class is accessible to all bodies and all levels of practice. On the second and fourth Wednesday of each month this is a Yogalates class. You’ll learn how to stabilize your core to foster deep strength and strong everyday posture. You’ll apply the healing benefits of yoga together with the challenging precision and control of the Pilates Method to develop deep core strength, flexibility, and alignment. Our flow classes are designed to be challenging and inspiring while helping you develop greater core strength and flexibility. You'll move through a flowing, connected series of postures with concentration on the breath. The pace of this class is usually faster than our Hatha Yoga or regular Yoga classes. Class often starts with some meditative practices, moving to core-focused poses and a thorough warm-up so we can really work in poses that allow us to experience our range of movement, engagement, and offer a great stretch. This is an all-level yoga class that helps strengthen your core as a foundation of your yoga practice and to helps build stability and grace. Information for studio classes: Please arrive at least five minutes before class as doors lock at the start of class. Please keep your valuables with you at all times. Have fun! Read on to learn about class levels, details on the class sequencing, and important information about your class location/format. Why the same class type can feel different when taught by different teachers: It’s our mission to ensure yoga is accessible and meets your needs! Each Yoga District teacher has their own way of teaching yoga, so we recommend trying a variety of class types with a variety of teachers. With so many options, you're bound to find a teacher and class type that work for you! Class levels: - In our all levels, aka level 1-3, classes, options for all levels of experience are offered. - In our level 1-2 class, options for both total beginners as well as intermediate practitioners of yoga will be provided - In level 1.5-2 classes, options for beginners with some experience as well as intermediate participants are provided. - In level 2-3 classes, options for both intermediate and advanced participants will be provided. - In level 1.5-3 class, options for beginners with some experience as well as intermediate and advanced participants will be provided. - In level 1 and level 1-1.5 classes, options for people totally new to yoga are the focus. Here's what to expect in the beginning, middle and end of class: Classes usually start with a series of "grounding", stabilizing movements. This can help you reconnect your mind with your body, while connecting the pace of body movements to the breath. Then the class usually transitions to more warming, strengthening, engaging poses. Toward the end of class you may find poses that focus on flexibility and release. Class usually ends with a final relaxation in "savasana" pose, during which you can lay quietly in stillness to let go. This combination of practices can help you achieve what some refer to as the goal of yoga: awareness of interconnectivity and oneness, bringing about a compassionate way of being. Props: Yoga "props" can help you feel more steady and supported in yoga poses. If you have your own yoga props, please use them! If not, creativity is invited! We love using blankets, towels, pillows, a strap (cord, belt, a robe tie, strap for yoga mat, detachable purse strap). Some classes even make use of a folding chair or chair that can be moved easily (purely optional).
