About this event
(14th St.) Flow 1.5-2, Ashtanga-Inspired @ 1910 14th St NW 3rd Flr Please arrive at least five minutes before class time. If we can assist you please text us at 202-265-YOGA. Thanks! Class description: This breath-led flow draws inspiration from the Ashtanga tradition, a dynamic style of yoga that combines steady holds of postures (for five breaths) with breath-coordinated transitions at a somewhat faster pace. The held poses can help build strength, balance, and focus, while the transitions can build heat, coordination, and endurance. This class is designed for anyone who is not completely new to yoga and is comfortable with a more active practice than a slower-paced or gentle flow. Modifications are offered throughout, with opportunities to challenge yourself while honoring your body's needs. Why the same class type can feel different when taught by different teachers: It’s our mission to ensure yoga is accessible and meets your needs! Each Yoga District teacher has their own way of teaching yoga, so we recommend trying a variety of class types with a variety of teachers. With so many options, you're bound to find a teacher and class type that work for you! Class levels: - In our all levels, aka level 1-3, classes, options for all levels of experience are offered. - In our level 1-2 class, options for both total beginners as well as intermediate practitioners of yoga will be provided - In level 1.5-2 classes, options for beginners with some experience as well as intermediate participants are provided. - In level 2-3 classes, options for both intermediate and advanced participants will be provided. - In level 1.5-3 class, options for beginners with some experience as well as intermediate and advanced participants will be provided. - In level 1 and level 1-1.5 classes, options for people totally new to yoga are the focus. Here's what to expect in the beginning, middle and end of class: Classes usually start with a series of "grounding", stabilizing movements. This can help you reconnect your mind with your body, while connecting the pace of body movements to the breath. Then the class usually transitions to more warming, strengthening, engaging poses. Toward the end of class you may find poses that focus on flexibility and release. Class usually ends with a final relaxation in "savasana" pose, during which you can lay quietly in stillness to let go. This combination of practices can help you achieve what some refer to as the goal of yoga: awareness of interconnectivity and oneness, bringing about a compassionate way of being. By signing up for this class you are agreeing to our wellness policy: If you have any symptoms that could be COVID you agree to not join a studio-based class. If you are sneezing, sniffling, or coughing due to allergies you agree to wear a mask throughout your time in studio.
