About this event

(Petworth) Yogalates @ 3905 Georgia Ave NW In this class you’ll learn to apply yoga together with the challenging precision and control of the Pilates Method to develop deep core strength, flexibility, and alignment. This is a fantastic way to improve your everyday posture and strengthen your core! Please arrive at least five minutes before class. You can text us at 202-265-YOGA if you need support. Please wear clothing that you feel comfortable in and bring your yoga mat (or rent a studio mat for $2, payable by card in advance online or at the studio by venmo). -- It’s our mission to ensure yoga is accessible and meets your needs! Each Yoga District teacher has their own way of teaching yoga, so we recommend trying a variety of class types with a variety of teachers. With so many options, you're bound to find a teacher and class type that work for you! Here's what to expect in the beginning, middle and end of class: Classes usually start with a series of "grounding," stabilizing movements. This can help you reconnect your mind with your body, while connecting the pace of body movements to the breath. Then the class usually transitions to more warming, strengthening, engaging poses. Toward the end of class you may find poses that focus on flexibility and release. Class usually ends with a final relaxation in "savasana" pose, during which you can lay quietly in stillness to let go. This combination of practices can help you achieve what some refer to as the goal of yoga: awareness of interconnectivity and oneness, bringing about a compassionate way of being. Props: Yoga "props" can help you feel more steady and supported in yoga poses. If you have your own yoga props, please use them! If not, creativity is invited! We love using blankets, towels, pillows, a strap (cord, belt, a robe tie, strap for yoga mat, detachable purse strap). Some classes even make use of a folding chair or chair that can be moved easily (purely optional).
