About this event
Ages 7 - 12
Location: 130 Rollins Ave, Ste F-2, Rockville, MD 20852 (free parking available)
In this hands-on introduction to 3D design, participants will explore the exciting world of digital fabrication using Tinkercad; a free, beginner friendly design software that makes 3D modeling accessible to everyone, regardless of experience. Step by step, participants will learn how to navigate the Tinkercad interface and apply essential design tools to build their very own 3D model of a house, experimenting with shapes, dimensions, and spatial thinking along the way.
While the house model itself will not be printed, participants will leave with the skills and confidence to continue designing their own 3D creations independently at home, opening the door to endless possibilities. As a highlight of the session, participants will witness our 3D printer in action, watching a fidget toy come to life layer by layer — and they get to take it home! Finally, participants will discover how to turn their digital designs into real printed objects through the Rockville Makerspace & Tool Library, a local community resource where anyone can access professional 3D printers and bring their ideas to life without needing to own a printer themselves.
