About this event

(Bloomingdale) Prenatal Yoga @ 1830 1st NW Class description: This class is designed to meet the need of students journeying along the pregnancy path and new mothers healing through the postpartum period. This class also welcomes partners who would like to move with the birthing parent. Class is tailored to meet the ever-changing needs of a birthing parent body during all stages of pregnancy and the postpartum period. Connecting yoga postures with the breath can help bring awareness to the mind, body, and spirit, and it can also help new moms reconnect with their bodies. Yoga can also alleviate many of pregnancy's discomforts, such as nausea, constipation, varicose veins, swelling, back pain, and sciatica. For new moms, the class will offer yoga postures to help regain abdominal strength, body flexibility, and toning. Class will feature guided meditation, breathing techniques, hip opening postures, practices to relieve tension in the shoulders and neck, pelvic floor exercises, relaxation techniques, back care exercises, yoga movements to prepare the body for birth, and methods to encourage overall postural improvement. Information for studio classes: Please arrive at least five minutes before class starts because doors are locked at the start of class for serenity and security. Read on to learn about class levels, details on the class sequencing, and important information about your class location/format. Why the same class type can feel different when taught by different teachers: It’s our mission to ensure yoga is accessible and meets your needs! Each Yoga District teacher has their own way of teaching yoga, so we recommend trying a variety of class types with a variety of teachers. With so many options, you're bound to find a teacher and class type that work for you! Class levels: - In our all levels, aka level 1-3, classes, options for all levels of experience are offered. - In our level 1-2 class, options for both total beginners as well as intermediate practitioners of yoga will be provided - In level 1.5-2 classes, options for beginners with some experience as well as intermediate participants are provided. - In level 2-3 classes, options for both intermediate and advanced participants will be provided. - In level 1.5-3 class, options for beginners with some experience as well as intermediate and advanced participants will be provided. - In level 1 and level 1-1.5 classes, options for people totally new to yoga are the focus. Here's what to expect in the beginning, middle and end of class: Classes usually start with a series of "grounding", stabilizing movements. This can help you reconnect your mind with your body, while connecting the pace of body movements to the breath. Then the class usually transitions to more warming, strengthening, engaging poses. Toward the end of class you may find poses that focus on flexibility and release. Class usually ends with a final relaxation in "savasana" pose, during which you can lay quietly in stillness to let go. This combination of practices can help you achieve what some refer to as the goal of yoga: awareness of interconnectivity and oneness, bringing about a compassionate way of being.
