ECONOMY NEWS

  • BGE officials said rising winter energy bills stem from higher supply costs + costly infrastructure upgrades needed to modernize aging systems. Starting this month, residents will see a 72-cent extra electric charge and a $1.95 gas impact, with another electric adjustment scheduled for March 1.  WJLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bowie State University mourns Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Clyde Doughty, Jr., who died Monday night at age 66 after 11 years of service. He expanded athletic facilities and earned multiple awards (including CIAA honors) that boosted the school’s sports programs.  Bowie State University
  • Prince George’s County Public Schools students are returning to classrooms today with a two-hour delay after a week of weather-related closures; officials advise families to allow extra travel time due to lingering snow on sidewalks & roads.  WJLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Wes Moore announced that Maryland’s traffic fatalities in 2025 reached a decade low, with deaths dropping from 582 in 2024 to 480; state safety projects (including enhanced speed enforcement and seat belt campaigns) will continue to improve road conditions.  WJLA
