CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Simone Banks, a Visual Communication and Digital Media Arts student at Bowie State, received the Community Impact Award for Creative Excellence on March 11 at a Mitchellville reception for her acrylic painting 'Wanted: Woman of Color,' which earned statewide recognition for blending illustration with public speaking. - ➤ The National Museum of African American History & Culture is hosting 'At the Vanguard: Making and Saving History at HBCUs' until July 19. The exhibit includes a video filmed on Bowie State campus with graduate Elijah Taylor and will travel to Atlanta, Houston, and Tallahassee this summer. Bowie State University
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bowie State University was chosen to join the From Campus to Career initiative supported by Lumina Foundation to boost career-connected learning for students; the program provides $100,000 over two years to expand internships and work-linked experiences. Bowie State University
- ➤ Bowie State University’s NAACP and Pre-Law Society hosted a civic engagement workshop on March 5 at the campus, where local government and community leaders taught students about voting, advocacy, and public leadership *with panel remarks by State Attorney Tara Jackson*. Bowie State University
- ➤ Bowie State University was honored with the 2026 Climate Luminary Award from Second Nature for its Peace Park Restoration Project that turned a memorial site into a green space for reflection and learning. The recognition shows the university's strong commitment to sustainability on campus. Bowie State University
- ➤ Bowie State’s VCDMA students met LAIKA Studios on March 3 at the Fine and Performing Arts Center to learn about paid summer internships at LAIKA’s Portland headquarters — the partnership supports hands-on animation training in the new Studio Ayoka Chenzira. - ➤ Bowie State University’s Department of Communications hosted the Maryland Communication Association’s 41st annual conference on March 6-7 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center.
