GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Prince George’s County Council member Eric Olson introduced bills aimed at easing parking challenges near homes by banning the use of cones to block on-street spaces and prohibiting noncommercial trailers from parking on residential streets between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. One measure already passed committee while another received unanimous preliminary support, and county officials will resolve enforcement issues in the coming weeks—Olson said the changes will help ensure streets remain clear for public use.  WTOP
  • Prince George’s County council is considering a bill to offer $1,000 stimulus checks to federal workers laid off amid major job cuts. Councilmember Wala Blegay, who introduced the Federal Worker Emergency Assistance Act, said the Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee will review the measure over the next few weeks—public hearings will follow.  WJLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday as the Baysox began a $50 million project to turn the stadium into a year-round venue with new clubhouses and indoor training areas. The renovations will finish next March — the team’s first home game is set for April 8 — and the project is funded by state authorities and private investors.  WTOP
