- ➤ Prince George’s County firefighters offered fire safety advice in Bowie after a house fire on Elon Drive on Tuesday night—responders fought a blaze that began on the second floor and left one man dead while two adults escaped, urging residents to check their smoke alarms and clear exits. WTOP
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police in Prince George's County warned residents about a bank text scam that cost victims tens of thousands of dollars based on three reports last week totaling $95,000. The scam starts with a text that appears to come from a bank and instructs victims to call a number—leading them to send money via cryptocurrency ATMs or gift cards. WJLA
- ➤ Tianna Cosby (Mendoza), a 24-year-old from Prince George’s County, was sentenced to nine years in prison on April 9 for leading a check-stealing scheme that stole over $5 million by altering checks from postal collection boxes and a mail distribution center in Capitol Heights between March and August 2021. - ➤ A report from Synapse Energy Economics said that electricity bills in the PJM region may rise more than 60% by 2036 due to delays in adding new power generation and a sharp increase in demand. State lawmaker Del. Lorig Charkoudian said PJM’s outdated rules hurt ratepayers — and PJM said it is reforming its process with nearly 200 gigawatts of projects expected online by late next year.
