CRIME NEWS

  • On April 24, 2025, Prince George’s County Police arrested two men accused of scamming victims out of nearly $700,000 and $40,000 in separate fake tech support schemes; Parmveer Parmveer from Grove City used a pop-up alert to mimic Apple security while Gyoung Lee from Flushing posed as a Microsoft support agent & a Treasury representative.  WJLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bowie State University’s College of Arts and Sciences held its 14th Annual Celebration of Excellence to honor students, faculty, and staff for their academic achievements and leadership. The event also recognized retiring dean Dr. George Acquaah (who led the college for 17 years) and named senior Donell Pettus Outstanding Undergraduate Student.  Bowie State University
  • At Bowie State University, Models Inc.—a program that builds confidence and fosters creative growth—is transforming the journeys of three students who are moving from behind the scenes to key leadership roles.   • Bowie State University celebrated 160 years of academic excellence today at its Founders’ Day event (honoring alumni, students, faculty and staff). Tiffany 'Lady T' Watson, a Bowie State alumna and two-time Emmy-nominated television host, spoke on persistence to honor the legacy and inspire the community.  Bowie State University
  • Bowie State University hosted its first-ever AI and Data Science Conference in Bowie; the event brought together experts from industry, government and academia who discussed artificial intelligence and cybersecurity—promising more collaboration in tech.   • Bowie State University Prelaw Society was awarded a two-year, $299,750 grant from AccessLex Institute to support its new Prelaw Pathway Initiative — which offers mentorship, advising and academic resources for law school preparation.   • Bowie State University hosted the seventh annual Social Justice Alliance Symposium with help from the University of Maryland and the 2nd Lt. Richard W. Collins III Foundation. The event had speakers like Symone Sanders, Karine Jean-Pierre and U.S. Rep.
