  • Bowie volunteer Sue Livera is named the 2025 Green Citizen Award recipient for her work to live a greener life. She is recognized for volunteering with local cleanups and planting native species—actions that include composting, driving a hybrid vehicle and using wind power at her home.  City of Bowie

CRIME NEWS

  • Prince George's County police said a security video shows a man in a tan jacket who later appeared without it wearing a 'Hawk' t-shirt and bright orange boxers as he fatally shot 58-year-old pawn shop guard Adayemi Martin during a robbery at Best Pawn Shop in Riverdale on April 10—police offer a $25,000 reward for help identifying him.  WJLA
  • Clarence Lynch, a 22-year-old man from Prince George's County, pleaded guilty to a 2023 armed robbery in Laurel where he stole $65,780 from an ATM and $11,852 in cigarettes — he now faces a sentence of at least five years to life in federal prison with his final sentencing scheduled for September 2.  WJLA

  • On May 8, 2025, Maryland Catholic Conference Executive Director Jenny Kraska discussed the election of Pope Leo XIV—the first American Pope—and its impact on Maryland and the United States.  WJLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Schools in Loudoun and Prince George’s Counties warn parents about a TikTok challenge where students jam a sharp object into a Chromebook charging port—this act risks fire and costly repairs—and ask families to stress device care since repair costs will be their responsibility.  WTOP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joanne Frederick of Stop MPRP has repeatedly asked for a meeting with Gov. Moore to address concerns over the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project—while his office said it met with project companies and offered a meeting with his deputy chief of staff. Frederick said community leaders will continue to push for a discussion as their homes and lives are at risk.  WJLA
  • Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown said his office settled with online retailer AdoreMe over deceptive marketing that enrolled customers in a VIP membership with hidden fees — making it hard to cancel. Customers will get refunds while AdoreMe must improve its sign-up process — clearly stating all terms and easing cancellation as part of the settlement.  WJLA

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • High school students from Bladensburg and Crossland built a nearly 3,700 square foot colonial home in the South Lakes neighborhood, which is set for auction at around $750,000 to $800,000. On Thursday, they were honored for completing about 70% of the work & graduating seniors received scholarships to support their next steps.  WTOP
