🚨 Crime
A Landover man, James Kareen Day, was sentenced to 16 years in prison and five years of supervised release for committing armed-robberies and attempted-robberies in Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties from December 2022 to February 2023.
🎓 Education
The Maryland State Department of Education announced a freeze on new enrollment for the Child Care Scholarship Program as applications grew by 87% since January 2023 - families already enrolled will keep receiving benefits while the freeze is set to last until September.
🏥 Health
An 11-year-old Maryland boy became the first person in the world to have an artificial heart valve replaced with a living valve from a donor heart.
The surgery was done at Children's National (in Washington, D.C.) and will help him avoid future operations and long-term blood thinners.
