  • On Tuesday, Glenn Dale Splash Park opened at noon in Prince George’s County and Bowie residents joined a long line to beat nearly 100°F heat while enjoying water slides — a welcome break from the extreme temperatures.  WTOP

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Andriette Proctor’s car was damaged when a strong storm toppled a tree on it at her Glensford condominiums parking spot last week in Bowie—she said the management company has yet to respond to her call for removal.  WJLA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA warned that older U.S. vehicles — averaging 12.8 years — are at higher risk of breaking down in the summer heat and urged Maryland drivers to check their cars using a seven-step maintenance checklist before Fourth of July travel. The group noted that cars over 10 years old are twice as likely to suffer roadside issues, stressing the need for proper care to prevent emergencies.  WJLA

HEALTH NEWS

  • After Tuesday's heat alert warned temperatures could reach 100 degrees, Maryland cooling centers opened today (available in counties like Prince George’s, Frederick and Charles) to help residents beat the heat (residents can call 211 for emergency assistance).  WJLA
