- ➤ Chief Dwayne A. Preston will lead the quarterly Community Matters meeting at Huntington Community Center—13022 8th Street on July 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., where Bowie residents can ask questions and share concerns with local officers. City of Bowie
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A shooting late Tuesday night on the 12700 block of Laurel Bowie Road injured a woman near a Sunoco gas station on July 22nd at about 10:40 p.m.—police have taken a suspect into custody as they investigate the incident. WJLA
- ➤ The Prince George's County Police Department found human remains in Piscataway Stream Valley Park on Wednesday while assisting Montgomery County police with a missing person investigation—officials said the remains will be sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for testing and shared with the public. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Council vice chair Krystal Oriadha proposed that the county study opening a government-run grocery store in neighborhoods that lack fresh food. If approved, the resolution will launch a six-month study on funding and management models—aiming for cost neutrality—and it will not compete with private stores. WTOP
- ➤ A mosquito in Bowie tested positive for West Nile virus, prompting the Maryland Department of Agriculture to spray the area where the mosquito was caught (spraying occurred late in the evening). The unscheduled spraying is part of a program that runs from late May through September to control mosquito populations (residents can request an exemption by submitting a form to MDA). City of Bowie
