- ➤ A Bowie traveler said she paid nearly $4,000 to FlyGirl World Travel — a travel agency that canceled her trip to Egypt and closed its business without refunding her money while the Better Business Bureau and police have received similar complaints. WJLA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Prince George’s County broke ground today near Route 1 on an energy-efficient replacement for the over-100-year-old Hyattsville Elementary—overcoming delays from funding challenges and union labor debates. The new school will feature modern thermal systems, rooftop gardens, and larger windows to maximize natural light and is set to open in about three years. WTOP
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today a state audit raised questions on Gov. Moore’s claim to $400 million in budget savings and found that state leasing deals may cost taxpayers more than promised — the Department of General Services said it would add full lease details in future deals — as critics call for clearer oversight. - ➤ Mel Franklin — a former county council member who went to jail for campaign finance issues — was hired by his friend Calvin Hawkins as his chief of staff, and Franklin said he is ready to make up for his past mistakes.
