  • Families in Bowie are cutting expenses and reworking budgets as furloughed federal workers wait for their next paycheck amid the ongoing government shutdown. Christina Farmer said households are reducing non-essential spending—such as Friday night pizza—and focusing on important bills like their mortgage.  WJLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal workers in the region have grown stressed over covering rent and mortgage payments amid an ongoing government shutdown, and local governments have stepped in to ease financial hardships. In Prince George’s County, councilmember Wanika Fisher hosted an online seminar — connecting furloughed employees with mutual aid resources.  WJLA
  • Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy backs nominee Samuel Moki to lead the Department of the Environment despite his 2014 firing for poor stormwater management that cost the county fines—local activists plan to protest his nomination at the council committee hearing today. Some community leaders worry his appointment may jeopardize efforts to protect the county from environmental risks linked to new data center projects.  WTOP
