Bowie State University’s Symphony of Soul Marching Band performed at Capitol Battle of the Bands at SECU Stadium on September 28 and played songs from artists like Tyler, the Creator, Britney Spears, Summer Walker and Doechii.
The show featured a surprise appearance by its mascot—Goldie—which energized the crowd and inspired future Bulldogs.
Bowie State University held its Fall Undergraduate Open House where over 400 future Bulldogs toured campus and met faculty to learn about more than 25 academic and graduate programs—staff and volunteers guided visitors as they explored BSU’s legacy as Maryland’s first historically Black college and its promise to empower students.
Bowie State University joined MDOT and local leaders to launch a transit-oriented development at the MARC station that will boost community access and drive economic growth.
The project will improve station access, convert underused land into a mixed-use destination, and link the campus with new housing and job opportunities — aligning with the university’s plan for future innovation.
PGCPS Superintendent Dr. Sean Joseph said a federal shutdown hurt services and created challenges such as a bus driver shortage, with 20 drivers getting certifications while about 150 more are needed & a new Chipmunk app helping parents track buses.
He added that stronger vaccination efforts have dramatically reduced unvaccinated students and led to increased free meal requests.
Ari’Anna Redmond, a Bowie State student, was honored with the Lanta Evans-Motte Youth Advocacy Award for mentoring youth and launching Tony’s Kitchen and Bakery — a company offering allergy-friendly baked goods — while also founding a nonprofit and graduating from the new Health Services Administration program. She is learning Spanish and American Sign Language to reach more community members and plans to continue mentoring fellow students.
