Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 19th of November.
Good morning, Bowie.
🎓 Education
Prince George's County Public Schools will expand its Dual in the Schools program from five to 25 high schools today—this initiative lets high school juniors and seniors earn college credits for free with courses taught by PGCC professors by the 2026–27 school year.
🏛️ Government
The Prince George’s County Council voted Tuesday to lift a 27-year ban on pit bulls, ending a law that cost about $3 million a year to enforce and allowing pit bulls and their mixes to be registered, adopted, or fostered under strict safety rules—dogs already in the county must meet updated requirements to remain. Council Chair Edward Burroughs III led the push for the change, which shifts focus from breed to behavior for determining dangerous dogs.
Prince George’s County Council voted 7—0 on Tuesday to end the nearly 30-year pit bull ban during its final legislative session, with supporters in matching purple shirts celebrating and opponents voicing concerns—now the bill goes to County Executive Aisha Braveboy who can sign, veto or let it become law without her signature.
