Christkindlmarkt: Zion Church Baltimore

About this event

Step into the magic of the season at Zion Church’s beloved Christkindlmarkt, proudly hosted in partnership with the Baltimore Kickers. Inspired by the cherished Christmas markets of Germany, this festive tradition brings the spirit of Advent to life right here in our community.

Held annually on the Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving , the Christkindlmarkt is the perfect way to begin your holiday season.

Wander through our charming market filled with unique vendors offering handcrafted gifts, holiday décor, and seasonal treasures. Visit the German Christmas Shop for authentic imported treats and gifts, including Lebkuchen, Stollen, Marzipan, ornaments, nutcrackers, and other festive favorites straight from Germany.

Enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavors of the season with traditional German food, imported German beer, warm mugs of Glühwein (mulled wine), and joyful holiday music throughout the weekend. Families can enjoy visits from Saint Nicholas and the Christkind, while children delight in holiday activities and seasonal entertainment. Saint Nicholas, known in Germany as Sankt Nikolaus , was a 4th-century Christian bishop celebrated for his generosity and kindness, especially toward children. The Christkind (pronounced KRIST-kind ), meaning “Christ Child” in German, is a beloved Christmas figure in many German-speaking countries and symbolizes the joy, hope, and wonder of Christ’s birth.

Guests are also invited to explore the beauty and history of Zion’s church building through guided tours offered throughout the event.

A long-standing Baltimore tradition, the Christkindlmarkt offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere where friends, families, and neighbors can gather to celebrate the Advent season and experience the rich traditions of a German Christmas.

Join us for a memorable start to your holiday season. We look forward to welcoming you to Zion Church’s Christkindlmarkt each year on the weekend after Thanksgiving!
